Pain? Not a big deal, but sometimes...
One thing most people seem to remember about getting their ink is how long it took, probably because length of time under the needle and pain are often related. If that's the case, here's a tattoo convention warrior...Fred from Chester, South Carolina...who sat for twelve hours of needle work in one session. Let's see, he passed out once, threw up twice ....

The design and needle work for this tattoo were done by West Virginia artist Patti Nichols, Mistress of Pain. A close-up of this large leg tattoo is shown below.

Below is Fred at the 1997 convention. As you can see, the leg is covered with more ink than when we last saw Fred in 1996. Fred got a tiger added to his leg by Mario Barth at the 1997 convention. Compare the second and first pictures below to see where it was done.

Nice tiger face addition, huh?

The place on the body where the needle is working can also influence the degree of pain. On a bone or the underarm...ouch...now that can hurt. Here's a picture of Whitt the Wizard getting a head tattoo at the 1997 convention. Whitt, a tattoo artist at Tye Dye Tattoo Art Gallery in Jefferson City, Tennessee, reports that the sounds in his head from the needle were "interesting."

Below is a picture of Whitt's finished head tattoo.

Ouch!!
Speaking of places to get a tattoo if you're into pain, check out this guy getting work done in his arm pit at the 1998 convention.

And what about Joel Illich, below...tattooed on the THROAT? Come on, Joel, that had to hurt more than "just a little."

And if you are really into pain, check out Billy's ink elsewhere on this site and read his description of getting his penis tattooed. And, there is an email link to Billy if you want to ask him more about his experience.
