Freek

Freek is from Vlaardingen, Holland, and has some very fineTahitian tribal-style ink. He's shown above with his Rotweiller, Daisy. After completing medical school, Freek got a few tattoos on his arms, but it wasn't until he discovered Tahitian tribal designs that his large inkwork really got started. "I found out that other cultures have a meaningful and positive attitude towards tattooing," he wrote, "whereas our culture is, on the whole, still negative. For my own tattoos I wanted such a positive attitude and so I decided for the Tahitian tribal style." Freek designed all of the Tahitian-style tattoos that you'll see on this page, and all of the ink work has been done by Jan Bom of Rotterdam. Here's a full front picture. The chest piece won Freek "Best Man" at a local tattoo convention less than a month after he got it....

Note the different levels of design in Freek's tattoos. The intricate collar...and many fine small designs that follow Tahitian tattoo tradition...but look closer...the design also comes together as a whole...an intriguing sum of its parts. The ink in the nipple area had to hurt, huh Freek?

Freek's back is shown above. See how Freek demonstrates both the rythmic and geometric dimensions of Tahitian tattoo work. The picture below shows detail on Freek's lower back...added since the picture above was taken.

Here's a bird on Freek's ankle.

And a mystical fish on his hip...

Here is a tribal face on Freek's arm, with complex band work above.

Here's another full frontal picture.

And some more fine pics of Freek's ink...

Ouch...that needle had to hurt on the knees.
